History will come alive in Aberdeen this September as the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain makes their trip to Westport. The tall ships, part of the Aberdeen-based nonprofit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport, sail the waters of the Pacific each year offering educational programs, free deck tours, and sailing trips.
From Sep 22nd – 30th, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be docked at Westport Marina (326 Lamb Street, Westport, WA 98595). Originally scheduled to be docked in Aberdeen, the change was made due to an unexpected maintenance need at their Aberdeen headquarters of Seaport Landing. All sailing and tour times will be the same, now operating from Float #10 for Lady Washington and Float #6 for Hawaiian Chieftain. For questions or ticket exchanges, please call 360-532-8611.
On weekdays schools can reserve trips aboard the tall ships for the Historical Seaport’s one-of-a-kind maritime heritage field trip Voyage of Explorers. On weekends the tall ship is open to the general public for ticketed Adventure Sails and Battle Sails. For the seasickness-prone but curious, stationary dockside Vessel Tours are available daily for a $5 suggested donation. Hawaiian Chieftain can also be Chartered for private events including weddings and workplace team builders.
Lady Washington was built by the Historical Seaport in Aberdeen in 1989. The steel hulled Hawaiian Chieftain was launched in 1988 in Lahaina, Hawaii. Together the tall ships are among the most active educational boats in America, visiting approximately 40 ports each year. The tall ships offer a glimpse into our historic past, introducing people of all ages to the sights and sounds of 18th and 19th century maritime life.
