Drivers planning to attend Hoquiam’s Loggers Playday festivities on Saturday, September 12, are encouraged to get there early. Arriving well ahead of schedule can help viewers and participants avoid missing any of the fun. Drivers may also want to consider staying late to skip congestion and delays.
Because the US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge is closed until mid-October for repainting, drivers may experience more congestion than usual, particularly during the parade that occurs in downtown Hoquiam from noon to 2:00 p.m. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) encourages drivers to help reduce congestion by combining trips or carpooling.
Drivers are currently detoured on the Riverside Avenue Bridge which has been reconfigured to accommodate two-way traffic.
“While it’ll take a little more time to get around, we’re expecting a fantastic event for our hometown,” said Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney. “We appreciate folks who plan ahead and give themselves some extra time. But people should stick around after the parade; there will be a street fair as well as great time at our historic Elks lodge where a one of the highlander bands and the Snohomish Sauerkraut band come inside to perform separately and together.”
Hoquiam businesses also remain open and accessible
City of Hoquiam crews have established an alternative route via Aberdeen Avenue and 21st Street to access to Doug’s Small Engine Repair, Deidra’s Deli and Grays Harbor Farmers Market.
